NSA Sheep 2008 has attracted some of the worlds leading sheep shearers to compete in a series of all day activities lined up at the industry's biennial event staged by the National Sheep Association at the Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern on Wednesday 30 July.

The Open Sheep Shearing Competition is to feature not only a team of top UK shearers, but also entrants from overseas. Managed under the rule of the British Isles Shearing Competition Association, some of its members have been invited to do the judging.

The English Shearer of the Year finals will also be staged at the event. This prestigious award will feature junior, intermediate, senior and open classes for blade, machine shearing and wool handling, while the overall winner will go forward to the Golden Shears world championship to be staged in Norway later this year.

"Sheep shearing is a fast and furious spectacle which appeals to a wide audience," comments NSA chief executive, Peter Morris.

"Apart from offering shearers the opportunity to promote their skills and sheep handling excellence, the competitions also provide those with less experience with a chance to learn and make subsequent progress. In addition, they offer all sheep farmers the opportunity to catch up on the British Wool Marketing Boards requirements when it comes to fleece preparation, handling and wrapping."
