CT scanning makes debut demonstration
Sheep breeders will be able to find out more about improving lamb performance by visiting the CT scanning demonstration at NSA Sheep 2010, to be held at the Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern on Tuesday 3 August by the National Sheep Association and co-organiser, the Three Counties Agricultural Society.
Scottish Agricultural College’s mobile CT scanning unit which will be making its debut at the event, will be demonstrating how the new technology operates, while EBLEX and Signet will be explaining in detail the information it provides to help breeders make more informed decisions in their selection process.
“There are still too many finished lambs produced in Britain that fail to meet targets for fat levels and conformation grades,” says NSA Sheep 2010 organiser, Helen Davies.
“The CT scanning demonstration will inform visitors how modern technologies can have a major impact on helping to improve the issue and add value to lambs, together with the wider use of performance recording and selective breeding.
"NSA believes it is a very important tool in linking up the breeding side of the industry with the commercial lamb finishers who need their rams to have the right meat related genetics to meet the demands of the modern day consumer.”
